Weekly Geek Round Up – July 19th

Each week, I endeavour to bring you a run down of news from the world of popculture that you may or may not have heard about this week in one collective post. 


  • Titan Comics have released information about their Doctor Who Day on July 26th with events happening around the world. Fans can enter contests, including an interactive cosplay competition. There will also be a Q&A on Titans facebook page with writers Rob Williams and Al Ewing. Head over to the Titan website to see all the details of the day and to find if your local comic store will be participating.
  • Titan have also released a full list of the variant covers for their premiere issues of the new 10th Doctor and 11th Doctor comics. Head over and check them out. Who is going to collect them all?
  • Marvel announced a relaunch of Thor set for this October, with a “worthy” woman set to be brandishing the hammer. The move has kept fans talking with mixed opinions, from positive comments to complaints of Marvel being lazy and unoriginal. Read more about the new female Thor.
  • Marvel also announced that Sam Wilson the superhero Falcon, is set to take the Captain America Shield and also revealed a new Superior Iron Man who is not only wearing a new suit, but also has a new perspective on life. READ MORE.
  • Archie is set to sacrifice his life to save friend Kevin Kellerman from an assassination attempt in the alternate universe series Life With Archie. READ MORE.



  • Love The X Files? Love the music from The X Files? Well La-La Land Records and 20th Century FOX are releasing a ‘new’ soundtrack from the first X Files Movie. The CD will be available from the La-La Land website and through limited other online stores. Head over to X-Files News for more information on the release date and how you can get your copy.
  • The BBC released the first full trailer for the upcoming series of Doctor Who. Showing The Doctor is set to face some new monsters and possibly some old enemies. WATCH HERE.
  • The final season of Sons of Anarchy now has a premiere date. On September 9th the one hour and forty-five minute episode will air on FX followed by a live discussion show – Anarchy Afterward.
  • Classic 80s childrens cartoon SuperTed is set to make a return to Television in all new episodes. READ MORE.
  • The first trailer for new series 12 Monkeys has finally been released. The re-imaging of the 1995 movie stars stars Aaron Stanford, Amanda Schull and Kirk Acevedo. READ MORE and watch the trailer over at screen rant.
  • Following the departure of Lucy Griffiths (Liz) from Constantine, NBC revealed that Angelica Celaya will be joining the cast as Zed, someone “who can go toe-to-toe with John,” explained executive producer Daniel Cerone. READ MORE.


CONVENTIONS – Australia & New Zealand

  • Oz Comic Con have announced character actor Mark Sheppard for their first Sydney show in September. His long list of TV credits include The X Files, Doctor Who, Warehouse 13, Battlestar Galactica and is currently appearing on Supernatural.
  • Buffy star, Amber Benson has been announced for Oz Comic Cons 2015 Adelaide and Perth shows.
  • But sad news for Farscape fans as Gigi Edgely has had to cancel her appearance at Brisbane and Sydney but she is sure to be again.
  • Supanova has announced Stargate Atlantis star Torri Higginson for their Brisbane expo this november. For more information head on over to the Supanova website.
